Registration for both the November and February contests closes on Nov 1. See below for announcements and our latest policy changes, or browse the complete list of rules.HMMT November Tournament (Saturday, Nov 7, MIT)
The November Tournament is back! The structure and radness remain largely unchanged, and the full set of rules is posted here. Some highlights:
- Participants must live within 75 miles of Cambridge.
- Team size is 4-6. If you'd really like to come and can't buy off three of your friends, e-mail us at hmmt-request@mit.edu and we'll see what we can do.
- The top 10 students (aggregate score) and those on top 10 teams (sweepstakes) from past February contests are not allowed to compete, but are invited to help us run the show. If you're interested, e-mail us.
- The cost is now $20 per team, to be paid on the morning of the tournament.
HMMT 2010 (Saturday, Feb 20, Harvard)
The February Tournament is as new as ever, with a fresh set of policies to usher in the coming decade. The full ruleset is here.
- We will not be using Division 1 and Division 2 (small vs big schools).
- Regional team restrictions still apply. Please check the registration rules.
- Teams must have a minimum of 6 students, and a maximum of 8.
- No school or club may bring more than 3 teams. In the likely case that we still run out of space, we will determine which teams to accept by the following algorithm:
- The Top 40 North American teams from HMMT 2009 are automatically accepted.
- Each school or club is allowed one further team. This may be a school's first, second, or third team.
- The remaining spots will be lotteried among the schools and clubs that registered for more teams.
- We will accept individuals on a case-by-case basis. This category is for students that do not have a school or regional team to compete with, not for those trying to get around the above limitations. To apply as an individual fill out the registration and e-mail us your situation.
- The above policies do not apply to international teams. Contact us to apply as an international team; we will consider such teams on a case-by-case basis.
- Team Round B is weighted 50% as much as Team Round A, but is substantially easier. See past contests for examples.
- The General Test will be weighted less than the subject tests, percentage TBA.
- Nov 1: Registration closes
- Nov 15: Teams get confirmation
- Feb 1: Last day to make changes to names and selected tests
- Feb 1: Payment due (not postmark date)
- Feb 20: Tournament day!
Online Competition
Teams unable to compete onsite will be able to compete in a new, unofficial, online competition. This competition is open to everyone and will be a part of both the November and the February tournaments. More information will be posted in the next few weeks.
Overnight Hosting
We encourage all students traveling in on Friday to sign up to be hosted with a Harvard or MIT student. Our overnight hosting program is a fun, educational, and economical (free!) way to spend the Friday night before the competition. Please let us know, via email, by February 1st how many of your students need to be placed. Please let us know much earlier if your school will be requiring some form of official paperwork. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate adults (coaches and parents).
